GFB Athlete: David Barnett

April 1, 2017

With the 2017 CrossFit Games Open behind us, I want to spend a week highlighting some of the GFB success stories for 2017. It has been a fun season so far!

I begin with David Barnett because he is my friend, my business partner, and his character epitomizes everything that I try to teach my athletes. He has a clear understanding of his circle of influence and self-awareness that I wish I could give to everyone.

To say that David has improved is a massive understatement. When we opened CrossFit Lubbock together in 2014, he weighed 275 lbs. In 2015, he decided to make a change and pursue CrossFit as a sport rather than a training methodology. He began counting every calorie, every gram of protein/carbs/fats, and now even tracks his micronutrients. He's turned his personal testimony into a business that is currently helping hundreds of people change their own lives for the better. If you want to be apart of the amazing transformation stories, check out his website: www.macroholicsnutrition.com.

I've always worked pretty closely with David as a coach. However, as our schedules got busier, we got less time together during training sessions. David decided to hire me at the beginning of 2017 as his personal coach. We've worked together to set up the ideal schedule for him and modify workouts to meet exactly what he needs as we approach different stages of the season. They are long days: SAMPLE WEEK. Today, David is 182 lbs, fitter than ever, and headed to Regionals in May.

I could not be more proud of David and the work he's put in to get to this point. He had one of the best years of training that I've ever seen an athlete put in. 17.1 to 17.5, he competed perfectly. Regardless of what others did, he did his best.

Make sure you keep track of David! He's not slowing down anytime soon.

See you in San Antonio,
