I Don't Wanna

November 16, 2016

You know those days. You're feeling "blah" and demotivated toward your training. The barbell feels extra heavy. The discomfort you feel during the warm-up row doesn't help either. I'm not talking about when you're sick, injured or going through something terrible outside of the gym. I'm talking about those days when you just "don't wanna".

Start the clock.

That may sound emotionless and overly simplified, and in many ways that is my intention. Mental toughness is an intangible component of sport, fitness and life. It can also be developed. People are not born tough, they become tough. I see far more growth in my athletes when they push through those hard days than I do when they crush it on the good days. When you quit or simply don't show up just because you don't feel like it, you're giving more fuel to that voice in your head that tells you that you're not good enough. Relish in those bad days because everyone has them. The people who fight through them will always end up on top.

Start the clock.
